Niler has been thrown into the air, and is upside down above the steer, but he is still wearing his hat, and still gripping the halter rope in his left hand. Four or more mounted cowboys are in the infield, and the one behind the steer is on a white horse. Further behind, one sees a white fence with eight or more cowboys standing in front of it. Behind it, from left to right, we see the long rectangular building with two of its smokestacks showing, the triangular front of a building, likely a barn, and on the right-hand side of the picture, we see a two storey building with most of the grandstand beside it. The contestants database shows that Niler only competed at Calgary in 1929 on July 8th and 10th, in this event. It also gives his name as Foesier, not Foser as on this card. On the back of the card, there is some glue and black paper due to removal from a photo album.</text>

<text>Donated by Doug Lott. Doug’s grandfather immigrated to Canada in 1885 and homesteaded a cattle ranch in the Elbow Valley, bordering the Tsuut'ina Nation. He married the daughter of the Indian Agent [Last name Lucas], and together they had three children while ranching in Alberta. The family relocated to Victoria, B.C., in 1907/1908 due to weather, bad season and loss of cattle. Doug’s father was born there in 1910. The collection of photos can be traced to Mable “May” Lott, the eldest daughter of the Lott family. May was a 'spinster' teacher who travelled extensively, and some of the photos document family life on their farm in Victoria. However, a significant portion of the collection includes images from the Calgary Stampede. Tentatively dated these slides from between 1912 and the 1920s. These may be glass plate negatives from a local photographer, possibly Oliver or Marcell, who created real photo postcards to sell during the early Stampedes.</text>
