In the background, to the left, are several horses. The back of the photo states, "BEV / WITH HIS FOSTER FATHER LEO SEYER".<br /><br />History:<br /><p>‘Beverly’ James Albert Kendall was the Calgary Stampede Mascot in 1932.</p>
<p>He was born James Alberta Noakes in Kamloops BC on Sept. 21, 1931. His name changed to Kendall at adoption. His birth mother was Evelyn Estell Stobbie and father was Robert Stobbie, was part Native. We believe he is about 1/6 Native. The family has a large number of photos and newspaper articles from that period, along with many of his costumes. The full Chief Eagle costume was made by Blackfoot indigenous peoples and the saddle he had for his pony.</p>

The Stampede Showband was created in 1971 to serve as music ambassadors for the Calgary Stampede, and have over 200 appearances or performances yearly. The Calgary Stetson Show Band is a community-focused registered charity that delivers unique performance experiences for youth as one of Canada’s premier youth performing arts programs. The Calgary Round-up Band is a community focused registered charity that delivers unique performance experiences for youth, and combines music with movement to produce unforgettable experiences, and offers opportunities to develop musical skills. The Band of Outriders is an energetic musical ensemble comprising of Calgary Showband Alumni.

Bronc riding, either bareback bronc or saddle bronc competition, is a rodeo event that involves a rodeo participant riding on a horse (sometimes called a bronc or bronco), that attempts to throw or buck off the rider. Originally based on the necessary horse breaking skills of a working cowboy, the event is now a highly stylized competition that utilizes horses that often are specially bred for strength, agility, and bucking ability. It is recognized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA). Two organizations that strongly promote the event in the United States are the Professional Roughstock Series (PRS) and World's Toughest Rodeo (WTR).

Captioned "J-88 - Calgary Stampede - Cecil Bedford / on 'D & D'". Cecil Bedford is mid-buck in the North American saddle bronc riding competition. He is on a rightward bucking horse and appears to be well seated with his right arm by his side. A mounted rider, likely the judge, is watching Cecil. Other cowboys in the background are on or in front of the chutes, and chutes numbered 3 to 7 can be seen. This card had a bit of damage on the front, but it should be an easy Photoshop clean-up.

Some Calgary landmarks seen in the comic is a theatre once known as the Archie Boyce Pavilion, renamed the Boyce Theatre. The ice arena is identified as the Olympic Saddledome.
